To maintain B.I.G.S. status, students must meet the following quarterly criteria:

We encourage you to discuss these standards with your student(s). We are here to help with any additional resources or support you may need.
IF your student is currently not meeting the criteria to be considered a "Bison in Good Standing" (B.I.G.S.) at Great Falls High School, please have your student reach out to their Associate Principal.

TRACK & FIELD
Lettering in a high school sport is an exciting and rewarding accomplishment - but it doesn’t only award excellence, but also dedication and desire. Though the focus and purpose of athletics is teamwork, sportsmanship, school pride, and the development of character; lettering as a varsity athlete as part of a successful program is very memorable.
--You MUST complete the season as defined (practice attendance included) by the head coach and honor all athletic codes.
--Grades: A student will not receive a letter if they receive a final quarter grade of an F (in any class) for the sport's primary season quarter.
--Classroom Attendance: A student will not receive a letter if they have 6 (or more) unexcused absences during the sport's primary season quarter.
--Behavior: A student will not receive a letter if they have had 1 major behavior incident OR 2 (or more) minor behavior incidents during the sport's primary season quarter.

By knowing your PR’s you get the joy of instantly knowing if you set a new best as soon as your mark is announced…an awesome feeling. This is a great way to earn points – through perseverance and improvement in multi-event work.
- Bison Track and Field Lettering Mark Standards -
You may also letter if you achieve one of the below marks in a given event:

- Divisional & State Team Qualifying Standards -

Meeting a qualifying standard does not guarantee an athlete will be on the Divisional team.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
ACADEMICS
To earn a GFHS ACADEMIC LETTER, students must accumulate 200 points based on GPA and course load. ONLY THOSE STUDENTS WITH a 3.25 GPA can accumulate points. The GPA is figured from each semester (only semesters DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR are included-NO summer semester credits are counted) and NOT from one’s cumulative GPA. The records office will calculate all GPA and course-related points once the application has been submitted.
Students can only submit ONE application per year.
Only one GFHS Letter may be received. Subsequent letter attainments are recognized with the awarding of the appropriate SYMBOL, which will be the LAMP OF KNOWLEDGE.
Participation in activities/clubs can result in points toward the academic letter, if the student receives verification concerning length of time and contributions to the activity.
Club/Activity points must be filled out to be included. If you have no club/activity/extra points to claim, leave the section(s) blank. You may only claim ONE club/activity position per semester. (Example: If a student belongs to two clubs, he/she may choose points for only one club.) You cannot claim points for an activity that maintains its own lettering criteria.
It is our belief in awarding the academic letter that students will have another positive incentive to be recognized for academic success with the same pride of accomplishment found in other activities that award the GFHS letter.
Letters will be awarded and students recognized in an appropriate manner in an upcoming ceremony. You will be notified and invited to the ceremony by mail.

JROTC
The following is the policy for awarding varsity letters for Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (JROTC). The JROTC program is nationally accredited and includes CTE class credit as well as opportunities for after school activities (referred to as Leadership Development Requirements (LDRs)). This program focuses on developing students’ character through meeting required academic standards, doing extracurricular JROTC activities and participating in a variety of community service events. A varsity letter can be earned by fulfilling the requirements below. Cadets may apply for a letter after they meet eligibility requirements and applications will be reviewed to determine new recipients at the beginning of each semester based on the previous performance. The standards outlined below are intended to be challenging, while still being attainable with a target of 10% of members being eligible. Criteria will be evaluated on an annual basis and may be adjusted. If changes are made, all previous recipients retain their letters and the new criteria will be published in the cadet guide and anywhere else it may be appropriate.
